Travis!
Nurse Travis. Not my real name. Not even close. Except the Nurse part, I answer to that quite often. Even if its not my patient. Well, sometimes.
At my first bonafide ER job I worked with some GREAT people. It was us against Appalachia, a good sized hospital serving many counties, nestled in a small country town.
One male nurse coworker there nicknamed me Travis because "when I was a kid, EVERY time I got in trouble for something, the idea always came from my best friend Travis! You're a Travis!"
The name stuck. Every time I had a bright idea or clued him in on something hilarious he'd just run from me yelling "Travis!"
Well this Travis moved on. I've been an ER nurse for 4 years. 2 spent in that initial hospital, another year down south, then another year far north, now I'm back down south again. Hopefully for good.

When I started out nursing 4 years ago I started off in a stepdown unit though I always wanted to work ER. After 3 months in stepdown I somehow weaseled my way into the ED and never looked back.
I loved ER from the start, and still do.
As time passed I found myself losing some appreciation and joy for the daily humor in my job. I've worked solely at community hospitals until now.
Now I'm employed at my first Trauma Center. As in, I'll never fill out EMTALA papers at this job!
A blog for my thoughts, as everythings new again.
